Celebrating 40 years of Clarke’s

17 December 1984 is a significant date in London’s gastronomic history

On that cold, wintry evening in Kensington Church Street, Sally Clarke and her newly formed team of cooks and waiters — not forgetting family and supporters — served their first meal.

17 December 1984

A set menu, carefully chosen from the seasonal ingredients available to them, for the no-fanfare occasion…

  • Salad of fennel, endive, satsumas, and Scottish smoked salmon
  • Char-grilled Welsh lamb marinated with lemon and thyme, game chips, and roasted vegetables
  • A beautiful cheese plate of Colston Bassett Stilton with Muscat grapes
  • ~ and for dessert ~
  • Crème Brûlée with poached cranberries
  • To complete the meal, delicious freshly-roasted coffee served from the cafetiere

We are holding two important events to celebrate our 40th anniversary, and we encourage you to book now to ensure you don’t miss out.

Monday, 11 November 2024 A Chez Panisse inspired dinner

Sally and the kitchen team will be joined by two of her favourite ex Chez Panisse chefs – Claire Ptak, author and chef/owner of Violet Cakes, and David Lindsay, head chef at the US Embassy in Switzerland. All profits from this celebration will go to Alice Waters’ Edible Schoolyard Project.

A fabulous no-choice menu (alternative dishes available on the night to cater to dietary requirements ) ~ £150 per person, plus 12.5% service.

Tuesday, 17 December 2024 Our 40th Anniversary dinner

Sally, Chef Michele, and Restaurant Manager Paul will recreate the menu served on that first day in 1984 … with a few (much-needed) tweaks here and there. The set 4-course menu will open with an aperitif as you are seated (alternative dishes available on the night to cater to dietary requirements).

The price will include a donation of all profit to Chefs in Schools.
