Despite the changeable weather ~WE ARE IN THE PINK!!!!!

 

We are delighted to announce the arrival of

3 new PINK items in the Shop and the Restaurant.

 

Pink Rose

From Italy, a wonderful pale pink wine – labelled Sally Clarke Verona Rose, which has been described as a “suave, elegant pink with a characteristic snap of herbiness and bags of character”.  Perfect therefore to accompany any number of our lovely early summer salads; with goat cheese, smoked fish, crab, lobster, peas, fava beans or courgette. Of course it would be more than perfect as an aperitif – simply served chilled, with a selection of olives, toasted marcona almonds or savoury cheese biscuits.  Retail prices are ~ £15.25 per 750ml bottle or £78 per case of 6 inc. VAT.

 

Pink Strawberries

Having bought the ‘first’ of the fragrant gariguette strawberries a few weeks ago from France, we are now happy and proud to be serving the English fruits which have just come into season.  Try them with crushed meringue and vanilla cream, or as strawberry ripple – puréed into our fabulous ice cream.  Of course you can also find them in our shop and purchase them by the punnet. Simply served with Neal’s Yard creme fraiche and sprinkled with brown sugar – they make the quickest and easiest of puddings – with some Clarke’s shortbread on the side of course!

(Look out soon for pink raspberries, pink cherries and pink-blushed apricots… …..really not long now at all!!)

 

Pink Turkish Delight

After months of trying, we have finally managed to secure one of Sally’s favourite ‘sweetmeats’.  Made in Istanbul, to a centuries-old recipe, our Turkish Delight is packed with pistachio nuts and sprinkled with rose petals. The added pomegranate juice ‘cuts’ the sweetness which makes this after dinner or tea time treat, a more-ish mouthful!  We offer 1 kilo boxes at £28.50, or small gift boxes at £4.85 (110g).

Meanwhile, we are slowly revving up for the early Summer months and anticipating all that that it will entail.   Chelsea Flower Show fans are starting to make their dinner reservations with us, and the Summer Opera festivals, cricket matches and school open days, up and down the land, will attract hungry
picnic-ers to the Shop.  Most will bring their own cool box to us to fill with their chosen goodies on the morning of the event, but we have Sally Clarke cool bags available for anyone who may have ‘forgotten’ – or needs that little extra help.

You will be able to choose from a fabulous menu again this year produced by
our Production Kitchen: the BEST pork and sage sausage rolls, (or vegetarian with spinach and nutmeg), beef, lamb or potato-leek pasties, our famous roasted chicken and mushroom pie and delicious tomato, goat cheese and basil savoury tart (other flavours are also available).

For your cheese course, we have a wide variety sourced from Mons Cheese and Neal’s Yard. Accompany them with our famous oatmeal biscuits or seeded rye wafers – then all that is needed as extra embellishment would be a dollop of Clarke’s chutney or Onion Marmalade.

For dessert do not forget that we have some ‘guilty’ and some not so guilty options. Chocolate brownies (gluten free also available), carrot cake with pecans, eclairs, madeleine and financier, pots of wonderful creamy rice pudding to go with your divine strawberries and much more, so please come in and browse.

 

Our team at the Bakery are working on some new sour doughs, potato breads and croissants – and the samples we have seen so far are fabulous! – so do look out for them soon – they will be both in the Shop and the baskets at the table.

 

Remember that we are open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner all week (Lunch only on Sunday), and although it is best to book a little in advance, it is always worth calling up on the day in case we have had a cancellation – or an early or late table may be available for you.

 

Don’t forget also that we have the perfect Private Dining Room for your party/meeting/presentation or celebration.   This spring we have already provided the venue for a Christening, a surprise 50th, a Wine Lunch and even a Dinner for 14 friends, for no particular reason!  Each event is planned by us on a bespoke basis, so we work with you to create something unique.  Call us with your date, the approximate number of guests, and we will arrange the rest!                  Happy early Summer to you all!
